On this website, we invite you to see a selection of artworks from our collection—the grandest of which is our landmark Philip Johnson–designed building.
In the coming months, these pages will increasingly be an integral part of the museum. With grants from the Henry Luce Foundation to photograph 5,000 works on paper, the National Endowment for the Arts to photograph principal paintings, and the Cooper Foundation for database technology, the museum has launched a major initiative to digitize its entire collection.
Digitization will provide greater access to the artworks for the public and efficiencies in management of the collection for Sheldon staff. This increased access to the collection will surely open doors to new scholarship of Sheldon’s extensive holdings.
As an academic art museum on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln City Campus, Sheldon has provided an unparalleled venue for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors to engage with art and one another. I hope you will join us by supporting the museum through membership, donations, and attendance at our programs.
The Sheldon staff and I look forward to seeing you soon.
