How can art help us better navigate our emotions and build meaning around them?

Throughout BIG FEELINGS little feelings, you are invited to engage with works of art from the museum’s collection on a deeply human level. We encourage you to consider the perspectives and experiences represented throughout the exhibition, and reflect on the emotional content of each artwork through both an individual and a collective lens. Inspired by the core concepts of social and emotional learning, this exhibition was designed with family audiences in mind. It offers all an opportunity to consider how emotions shape our understanding of ourselves and others.

At the heart of the exhibition is a dedicated space for mindfulness and reflection. Here, visitors are invited to slow down and spend time with a single work of art. Sustained looking and quiet contemplation supports developing emotional awareness, personal well-being, and meaningful moments of connection within the museum.

BIG FEELINGS little feelings is organized by Matt Boyd, manager of community learning and engagement, Sheldon Museum of Art.
