The city of Lincoln has had an organization dedicated to collecting and exhibiting art since 1888, when a Nebraska University art teacher formed the Haydon Art Club, later renamed the Nebraska Art Association and today known as the Sheldon Art Association. Sheldon Treasures, a selection of historic acquisitions made prior to 1963—when the museum’s current building opened—celebrates the early entries into the museum’s collection.
