This first comprehensive, museum-based retrospective of Pablo Helguera offers an in-depth examination of the artist’s multifaceted practice—that includes writing, drawing, singing, directing performances, facilitating social relationships, mailing letters, researching soap operas, or perusing flea markets in search of vintage slides that will serve as prompts for new visual storytelling. Pablo Helguera: Socialscapes is a critical appreciation of artistic heterogeneity and living in-between cultures; of social relationship-building that creates connection and belonging across languages and boundaries—a perspective particularly relevant in the current political moment.
