Volunteer Docents

Docent tours

Sheldon community docents are dedicated volunteers who are passionate about art and learning. They facilitate guided conversations about Sheldon’s outdoor sculpture collection for the “Sculpture in Context” tours—a Lincoln Public Schools program for students in the fifth grade.

One needs no prior experience with teaching and art to be a docent. Sheldon educators provide a formal docent training course each year to prepare docents for leading inquiry-based discussions about art. Primary training is held in August and September; further training is held in the spring.
