Exploring social factors of healthcare
SOCI 252 Health, Medicine and Society
Lisa Kort-Butler, associate professor of sociology, asked her students to imagine that they were curating an exhibition for a hospital interested in improving patient healthcare through art. Each student's exhibition would include at least two works currently on view at Sheldon.
Following individual exploration of the museum galleries, students reconvened to share their selections. The exercise demonstrated that through focused observation and visual analysis and experience-based learning, students expanded their aware ness of the social factors in healthcare. Furthermore, in describing and justifying their choices, the students refined their communication skills.
