Experiential learning for landscape design

LARC 210 Studio I: Survey of Landscape Architecture

Sarah Karle, associate professor of landscape architecture, brought her students to Sheldon to examine a painting by Richard Diebenkorn. This experiential learning activity built on their prior study of reproductions of works by the artist.

Through close observation, students identified the compositional elements and principles at play in Diebenkorn’s painting, and then took their findings back to the studio where they translated the experience into two-dimensional compositions and three-dimensional studies for a landscape design.
